Hilary Thompson has been teaching in Anne Arundel County for 18 years, both in International Baccalaurate and Arts Integration/Performing and Visual Arts schools. She earned a BA in Ancient Studies and completed her teacher certification at UMBC. At Loyola she received her ME in Curriculum and Instruction, where she completed research on the benefits of outdoor learning on adolescents. She was nominated for the Anne Arundel County Teacher of the Year award as well as the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year award in 2013. She received the Han Hollmann Environmental Education Award in 2015.
Hilary is currently serving as Social Studies Department Chairperson at Bates Middle School in Annapolis. She has recently become a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level and is looking forward to bringing yoga into the county schools and into Creating Communities programs. Hilary enjoys reading, the arts, nature, and yoga – and most of all sharing these activities with her friends and family.
